Small or large, wild or fully serviced, tucked between rocks or open to the horizon\u2014there\u2019s something for everyone! <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re trying to figure out which are the best coves on the Costa Brava for a getaway, you\u2019re in the right place. Take note\u2014we\u2019re going to tell you about our favourites. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In the north: Cap de Creus and Alt Empord\u00e0<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the far north end of the Costa Brava, around Cap de Creus Natural Park, you\u2019ll find coves surrounded by rocks and pines\u2014much wilder and more secluded than in other parts of the Costa Brava.<\/p>\n\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/d\/embed?mid=1Qb_ajaq8lT-z8iyffYGw9D4qUmEI_0s&#038;ehbc=2E312F&#038;noprof=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\"><\/iframe>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cala Tamariua <\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A couple of kilometres from El Port de la Selva is Cala Tamariua. Its name comes from the tamarind trees around it, which already gives you a clue about what you\u2019ll find: Mediterranean vegetation, rocks, pebbles, crystal-clear water, and a seabed home to many marine species. There\u2019s a small car park at the top. And yes, nudism is allowed, in case that helps you decide.   <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-Tamariua-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6696\" style=\"aspect-ratio:3\/2;object-fit:cover\" srcset=\"https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-Tamariua-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-Tamariua-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-Tamariua-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-Tamariua.jpg 1360w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cala Fredosa <\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Very close to Cadaqu\u00e9s\u2014the most iconic and photogenic village in the north\u2014is Cala Fredosa, a sandy beach that\u2019s ideal for <em>snorkelling<\/em> or stretching out by the shore. And since you\u2019re in the area, visit Cadaqu\u00e9s, a village full of white buildings, and the Cap de Creus lighthouse\u2014an excursion that\u2019s well worth it for the Mediterranean views. <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-Fredosa-1024x768.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6697\" style=\"aspect-ratio:3\/2;object-fit:cover\" srcset=\"https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-Fredosa-1024x768.webp 1024w, https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-Fredosa-300x225.webp 300w, https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-Fredosa-768x576.webp 768w, https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-Fredosa.webp 1360w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Central Costa Brava <\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If there\u2019s one area that brings together the best <a href=\"https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/en\/blog\/see-costa-brava\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">things to see on the Costa Brava<\/a>, it\u2019s the stretch that runs through Aiguamolls de l\u2019Empord\u00e0 Natural Park, L\u2019Escala, L\u2019Estartit and <a href=\"https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/en\/blog\/see-begur\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Begur<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here the sea is less rugged than in the north, but just as beautiful. The area has countless attractions and thousands of <a href=\"https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/blog\/que-hacer-estartit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">things to do in L\u2019Estartit<\/a> and nearby towns, such as visiting the Illes Medes, home to a marine reserve that\u2019s one of the best Mediterranean <em>diving spots<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ferriol <\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second-largest in the area between L\u2019Estartit and L\u2019Escala, and one of the most unspoilt coves on the entire <a href=\"https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/en\/blog\/costa-brava-map\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Costa Brava map<\/a>. It\u2019s part of Montgr\u00ed Natural Park, which helps keep the surroundings untouched. Access is on foot via a forest path from L\u2019Estartit; it\u2019ll take you almost an hour to get there, but it\u2019s worth it.  <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-Ferriol-1024x576.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6698\" style=\"aspect-ratio:3\/2;object-fit:cover\" srcset=\"https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-Ferriol-1024x576.webp 1024w, https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-Ferriol-300x169.webp 300w, https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-Ferriol-768x432.webp 768w, https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-Ferriol.webp 1360w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">La Calella <\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A rocky, unspoilt cove you can reach on foot\u2014about half an hour\u2014from L\u2019Estartit harbour, following the GR92 trail. The route will make you climb up to the Cap de la Barra viewpoint and then descend to the beach, but the views of the Illes Medes make it a two-for-one. And if you don\u2019t feel like walking, you can also get there by boat.  <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/La-Calella--1024x768.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6699\" style=\"aspect-ratio:3\/2;object-fit:cover\" srcset=\"https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/La-Calella--1024x768.webp 1024w, https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/La-Calella--300x225.webp 300w, https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/La-Calella--768x576.webp 768w, https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/La-Calella-.webp 1360w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Aiguafreda <\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Small and peaceful, Aiguafreda is the most intimate of the coves around Begur. Just a few metres of dark sand, rock and emerald-green water. Getting there requires a bit of walking, which keeps mass tourism away and preserves that special feel we all want to enjoy. It\u2019s also very close to Cap Sa Sal and another beautiful rocky cove: Ses Vaques.   <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-dAiguafreda-1024x768.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6700\" style=\"aspect-ratio:3\/2;object-fit:cover\" srcset=\"https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-dAiguafreda-1024x768.webp 1024w, https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-dAiguafreda-300x225.webp 300w, https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-dAiguafreda-768x576.webp 768w, https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-dAiguafreda.webp 1360w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sa Tuna <\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Don\u2019t let the road to get there put you off\u2014it\u2019s passable. Once you\u2019re here, you\u2019ll see the old fishermen\u2019s houses, little boats pulled up on the shore, and restaurant terraces overlooking the sea. Sa Tuna has a charm that few coves can boast.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The beach is pebbly, about 80 metres long, and from here you can walk along the coastal path to Aiguafreda\u2014yes, the one we mentioned earlier; it only takes 15 minutes. Also, in summer, the Cova de Sant Pau\u2014a tall cave to the right of the beach\u2014hosts habanera performances, the Costa Brava\u2019s signature music genre. <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1020\" height=\"680\" src=\"https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Sa-Tuna-.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6701\" srcset=\"https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Sa-Tuna-.jpg 1020w, https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Sa-Tuna--300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Sa-Tuna--768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1020px) 100vw, 1020px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In the south: Tamariu, Llafranc and Calella de Palafrugell <\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The stretch from Tamariu to Calella de Palafrugell via Llafranc brings together some of the Costa Brava\u2019s most pleasant coves, framed by cliffs along the Catalan coast.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cala Foradada <\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Note: there\u2019s another cove with this name between L\u2019Escala and L\u2019Estartit.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This wild cove is in the Palam\u00f3s area, with seabeds full of marine life and vegetation that reaches almost to the water. Access is via a footpath and no, there are no facilities here. <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-Foradada--1024x768.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6703\" style=\"aspect-ratio:3\/2;object-fit:cover\" srcset=\"https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-Foradada--1024x768.webp 1024w, https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-Foradada--300x225.webp 300w, https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-Foradada--768x576.webp 768w, https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-Foradada-.webp 1360w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cala Estreta <\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Located eight kilometres from Palam\u00f3s, in the Cap Roig natural area, Cala Estreta is separated from the neighbouring Cala d\u2019en Remend\u00f3n by a large reef that acts as a natural boundary between the two. A spectacular landscape! And if you like photography, bring your camera\u2014you\u2019ll leave with a full carousel.  <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-Estreta-1024x768.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6702\" style=\"aspect-ratio:3\/2;object-fit:cover\" srcset=\"https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-Estreta-1024x768.webp 1024w, https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-Estreta-300x225.webp 300w, https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-Estreta-768x576.webp 768w, https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-Estreta.webp 1360w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Further south: Tossa de Mar and surroundings <\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tossa and its surroundings\u2014including nearby Lloret de Mar\u2014hide a series of characterful coves, some easy to reach and others that take more effort to get to.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cala Bona <\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just two kilometres from the centre of Tossa de Mar is Cala Bona. It\u2019s a small beach you can only reach on foot or by boat. Fancy walking there and heading down rock steps? Then get ready for crystal-clear water and a peaceful atmosphere\u2014very few people make the walk. And to make it even better, for decades there\u2019s been a family-run beach bar serving Mediterranean food from a wood-fired oven.    <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-Bona--1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6704\" srcset=\"https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-Bona--1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-Bona--300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-Bona--768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/homesincostabrava.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cala-Bona-.jpg 1360w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cala Giverola <\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A cove of coarse sand and very clear water, surrounded by cliffs and pines. It\u2019s about 175 metres long and, unlike wilder coves, it has plenty of services: a restaurant, beach bar, sun lounger hire, showers and water activities.
