Table of Contents

Are you curious to know what the golf courses on the Costa Brava are like?

We can tell you right now that it is a region that has been on every golf fan’s radar for decades due to its mild climate —you can play here almost all year round— and the great variety of courses concentrated in very few kilometres. That this area of the Mediterranean has earned its reputation fair and square is a fact, and with the Ryder Cup 2031 putting the international spotlight on the Costa Brava once again, its appeal for golf lovers will only grow. Now all that is left is for you to come and see for yourself by signing your best scorecard at the best courses for golf on the Costa Brava.

We will tell you which ones they are and what makes them unique.

Must-play courses for golf on the Costa Brava

Here are, in no particular order, the courses that have left the most fame, history, and great golfing memories between Blanes and the French border.

Club de Golf Costa Brava

Let’s start with the oldest… well, almost.

Club de Golf Costa Brava, in Santa Cristina d’Aro, was founded in 1962 and its first 18 holes were opened in 1968, designed by British architect John Hamilton Stutt. Today it features no less than 27 holes split into two courses —green and red—, surrounded by typical Mediterranean vegetation —pines and cork oaks— that will make you slow down your pace between holes. And take note of this detail: its clubhouse is a beautiful farmhouse that has been standing since 1841. Sounds tempting?

Club de Golf d’Aro

If breathtaking views are your thing, you will find hypnotic ones here. Club de Golf d’Aro is located 300 metres above sea level, in the Les Gavarres Natural Park, combining Mediterranean panoramas with mountain views that, honestly, will distract your swing.

It opened in 1990 with a design by Ramón Espinosa and features 18 holes, par 72, over a thousand olive trees, pines, cork oaks, and two artificial lakes. In 1992 it won the title of best European course, so no, we are not exaggerating when we say you must come and try this venue for golf on the Costa Brava.

Club de Golf Peralada

This course is right next to Peralada Resort, so after your final putt you can finish the day at the casino, in its winery, or at a Michelin-starred restaurant. The choice is yours. But you definitely have to come play a round.

The layout of this location for golf on the Costa Brava was designed by Jordi Soler and inaugurated in 1993. It features 18 holes, par 71, and 6,071 metres with gentle slopes, plenty of trees, and several lakes and rivers that will test you and your precision.

A word of advice? Watch out for the tramontana wind blowing through.

Empordà Golf Club

In Gualta, no fewer than 36 holes await you split across two 18-hole courses: Empordà Links, which will remind you of the great Scottish courses —complete with dunes and lakes—, and Empordà Forest, winding through a pine forest that acts as a shield against the tramontana.

Both bear the signature of Robert von Hagge, one of the most renowned golf architects in the world. And to top it off, both were his first project in Spain —what a calling card!

Club de Golf de Pals

Time to get serious here, because we are talking about the oldest course on the entire Costa Brava. It started in 1966 with 9 holes on the initiative of businessman Baltasar Parera Vilar. But it doesn’t just have nine! In 1970 it was expanded to the current 18, designed by English architect F. W. Hawtree.

Set within a century-old pine forest next to Pals beach, in 1972 it hosted the Spanish Open, the tournament that helped launch the European professional tour. With a par 73 and over 6,260 metres, it remains a true classic for golf on the Costa Brava.

Camiral Golf & Wellness

Changing its name —it was previously PGA Catalunya— does not mean it has lost an ounce of its stellar reputation.

This destination for golf on the Costa Brava is located in Caldes de Malavella and combines two 18-hole courses, with its main highlight being the Pyrenees as a backdrop.

It opened in 1999 and is a regular on lists of the best courses in Europe. In fact, it has been confirmed that the Ryder Cup 2031 will be held right here.

Serres de Pals

At the Serres de Pals course, in Pals, you will find a club that reopened its doors in June 2023. In short, it has been freshly renovated. It features 9 holes, par 36, remaining faithful to the original layout conceived by its designer: Ramón Espinosa.

What sets this venue for golf on the Costa Brava apart from the rest is its landscape: here you will find rice fields, vineyards, fruit orchards, along with views of the medieval village of Pals and Torroella de Montgrí castle.

Best of all, each hole offers up to six tee boxes, allowing you to customize your round almost to order.

Torremirona Golf & Spa Resort

Near Figueres, nestled between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean, an 18-hole par 72 course designed by Eugenio Aguado and Jordi Soler awaits you.

The front nine is technical, with elevation changes and narrow fairways framed by trees, so it will be on the back nine where you can truly take in the scenery —except for hole 5, which features an island green.

And if after your round you fancy some relaxation, you can take advantage of their spa, a true luxury.

Par3 Pitch & Putt Gualta

We round off this list of top locations for golf on the Costa Brava with a great option whether you are a beginner or a seasoned player looking to sharpen your short game. Located in Gualta, close to Torroella de Montgrí, it features 18 par-3 holes. These range from 60 to 120 metres, and you can play without a federation license after taking a few lessons.

This layout has been putting players of all levels to the test since 1999. Coming to try it out?

The Ryder Cup 2031 arrives on the Costa Brava

The Costa Brava will become one of the premier international destinations for golf enthusiasts when it hosts the Ryder Cup in 2031. The prestigious tournament, pitting top players from Europe against the United States, will take place at Camiral, in Caldes de Malavella, near Girona, putting the region’s outstanding golf scene firmly on the global map.

In addition to enjoying one of the biggest sporting events in golf, visitors will have the chance to explore other exceptional courses for golf on the Costa Brava, along with its beaches, coastal towns, and cultural highlights. Hosting the Ryder Cup provides a fantastic boost for the Costa Brava as a benchmark destination for a golfing holiday.
